National Park Series
Inspired by trips to some of our favorite parks, the National Park Series celebrates some of the 63 national parks that are scattered around the country. First signed into law in 1872, the U.S. National Parks are designated for their natural beauty, diverse ecosystems, geological features, and recreational opportunities. The candles in this collection capture the essence of the parks into scent form and aim to transport you to these beautiful locales no matter where you are.
Joshua Tree
When most people think of the desert, flat terrain, endless sand, and dry dusty wind comes to mind. Not so at Joshua Tree National Park. Yes, it has plenty of sand, but there is so much more. The Joshua Trees themselves (known as Yucca Brevifolia) are a rare species of tree that can grow in these dry environments. Take a trip to the park and you'll see an endless landscape of this unique looking flora. Don't let the numbers fool you though, these are still considered an endangered species as they only grow 1.5-3 inches per year.
While the Joshua Trees are the main attraction, a wonderous event occurs in the spring. A superbloom of desert flowers, hydrated by the winter rains, open up and attract all sorts of polinators and spectators. It's an extraordinary juxtaposition between the drab, tan desert and the colorful spectrum of flowering plants.
Our scent aims to capture not only the dryness of this desert landscape but also the beautiful, sweet smelling flowers that erupt during the springtime.
Hawai'i Volcanoes
Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is one of the rare places on the planet where you can view an active volcano up close and, if you're lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you feel about it), see an active lava flow. Located on the Big Island the park not only exhibits the island chain's history of volcanic activity, but also shows off the many plant and animal species that call this remote region home.
It should be no surprise that this scent is going to lean heavily into the smokiness of volcanic activity. But we also wanted to highlight the fact that new growth follows closely behind these lava flows in the form of new tropical plants and flowers. You'll get the smoke but also a little bit of sweetness.
Redwoods
The Redwood Tree. An absolute marvel of Mother Nature. These centuries old trees can grow to up to 240 feet tall with a diameter of 20 feet. The imposing structure of these beauties isn't properly apprecated until you're standing next to them. Only then can you truly feel both the raw power and splendor of nature.
This scent transports you to these famous groves. You'll smell not only the leaves and the bark of these trees, but also the herbs and flowers that grow around them.
Glacier
Glacier National Park, nestled inside the Rocky Mountains, is among the most grand and imposing of the national parks. Stunning waterfalls, endless forests, and magnificent views atop its peaks, this park is a photographer's or nature lovers dream. Oh, and if the name of the park hasn't given it away, there are two dozen glaciers to explore.
Our scent has traces of melted glacier water wafting through the air mixed with scents of the many flowers and foliage that cover the landscape.
Yosemite
If you're a fan of the outdoors and nature, Yosemite National Park, located in central California, can be considered a small slice of heaven. With its waterfalls, sheer granite cliffs, glaciers, lakes and groves of giant sequoias, Yosemite has a little bit of everything. Whether you're a camper, a rock climber, or just a day tripper, there is something for you to see. Yosemite was also instrumental in paving the way for the National Park System to protect other sites like it.
The scent we curated for this spectacular park encapsulates the fresh mountain air, the smell of endless rows of trees, and fresh water roaring over a steep cliff.
Dry Tortugas
One of the more remote national parks, Dry Tortugas sits about 68 miles west of the Florida Keys. It's remote location, while time consuming to get to, means it can offer pristine views of the Gulf of Mexico and plenty of tropical wildlife to observe. For you history buffs, the park is also home to Fort Jefferson, which was both a defensive bastion and a prison during the civil war era.
When lighting this candle, you'll be able to smell the ocean as if you were walking along the sandy shores of this beautiful archipelago.
